Establish and Maintain Nature Reserves and Educate in Natural History and Nature Conservation

Kenn Moor Reserve

Kenn Moor Reserve comprises four fields. The original two fields were purchased with the help of local residents in 2006 and in 2024 YACWAG was again helped by local residents to purchase the two adjoining fields.

In 2006, two fields were purchased with the help of local residents. These two fields are now known as Bramblewood and Bramblewood Orchard. A hedge was planted to enclose the smaller field near the road and the hedges on the northern and western sides were restored in 2016 by laying. In December 2020, the smaller field nearest the road was planted with 14 standard apple trees to create a small traditional orchard. The larger field is damp rushy pasture that attracts over-wintering Snipe and Jack snipe.

In December 2024, YACWAG was again helped by local residents to purchase the access track and two adjoining fields which are named Maslens Field and Maslens Orchard in grateful memory of the bequests of Peter and Cora Maslen of Yatton who left YACWAG a legacy that they wished to ‘improve and maintain biodiversity in the parish of Yatton’. The smaller of these fields was planted in March 2025 with 10 standard apple trees donated by Thatchers Cider. Both Bramblewood and Maslens fields are managed by summer grazing with cattle.
