General News

On Saturday, 31st January, YACWAG members enjoyed a brilliant afternoon celebrating World Wetlands Day with a guided walk around Congresbury Moor.

World Wetlands Day is marked globally each year to raise awareness of the vital role wetlands play in supporting biodiversity, improving water quality, storing carbon and helping protect communities from flooding. Congresbury Moor is a wonderful local example of why these landscapes are so important.

It was great to see so many YACWAG members come along to explore the fields that make up the Moor and to learn more about the stories behind them, as well as their current management plans. The walk offered a chance to really understand how the land is cared for and why thoughtful management is essential for nature and wildlife.

A big thank you goes to Tony and Faith, who generously shared their knowledge and insights throughout the walk, helping to bring the landscape to life. We were also lucky to watch Trevor carry out a snipe count at 10 Acres Field – a glimpse into how bird populations are monitored on the Moor.

As if the wildlife wasn’t enough, the sun even made an appearance, adding to what was a really enjoyable and relaxed afternoon outdoors.

YACWAG is keen to encourage more members to visit and experience Congresbury Moor throughout the season via our exclusive members-only walks. These walks offer a unique opportunity to see the Moor at different times of year and to discover how the landscape changes with the seasons. If you missed this particular walk, don’t worry – we’re told the wildflowers in Croft Field will look spectacular later in the year.

Please note that walks are often arranged at fairly short notice. This allows us to take advantage of the best weather conditions and gives everyone the best chance of seeing wildlife at its best. To avoid missing out, keep an eye on our WhatsApp community announcements and the website calendar for upcoming events.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate World Wetlands Day, and we look forward to welcoming more members on future walks at Congresbury Moor.
